LNG Tanker in Transit

For the past 12 years, SAAM SMIT Towage has been working in the Mexico offshore arena, consistently providing assistance to Pemex' operations through 11 tugboat service contracts. Our proven track record has resulted in the steady renewal of contracts with Pemex.

Of the 11 tugboats under contract, six are active as support tugs for tanker loading (static towing) at either Single Point Mooring buoys or at FPSO’s. Four are primarily active in rig moves, but will also assist tankers when not engaged in rig moves. The 11th tug serves as a replacement vessel when tugs go into dry dock for maintenance (approx. 200 days/year) and also works on the spot market when not required for other purposes. The flexibility of having an additional tug allows us to continually provide service without interruption and respond quickly should our customers require extra assistance. This has in the past been a reason for direct contract awards to SST Mexico.

SAAM SMIT Towage Brazil provides dedicated services to Petrobras’ Oil Terminal in Angra dos Reis and in Suape with 4x 45 TBP tugs and 2x 50 TBP tugs respectively , all equipped with Fifi and oil spill response capabilities. Furthermore SST Brasil also provides 4 ASD Tugs with FIFI 1 at the Petrobras´ LNG Terminal in Salvador. Both operations require highly trained crew and fulfill to the highest Safety and Environmental standards in the Oil and Gas industry demanded by Petrobras.

SAAM SMIT Towage Canada provides terminal and escort services to crude oil, product and chemical tankers arriving and departing British Columbia waters.  Our tug escort and assist services provide safe passage to tankers transiting these confined, environmentally sensitive Canadian and US waterways. SAAM SMIT Towage meets and exceeds the highly regulated standards demanded within this region with seven purpose built tugs stationed in Vancouver providing reliable docking and undocking services at the terminals and tethered escort service for the 90 nautical mile transit to open sea.

SAAM SMIT Towage is an experienced provider of marine services to LNG terminals. We currently operate at the Altamira LNG Terminal in Mexico as well as the Petrobras Terminal in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil. Our parent and affiliated companies have operating experience at an additional 22 LNG terminals. We have proven to be able to meet the reliability and safety requirements demanded in the LNG trade.
